Salary for Personal Trainers

Updated this week

The salary for a Personal Trainer varies depending on several factors, such as employment type, employer, location, and the number of clients you work with. Below is an overview of the most common salary models in the industry:

1. Fixed Salary

Some employers offer a fixed monthly salary, providing stable income regardless of the number of clients.

  • Fixed salaries are most common at specialized PT studios but are increasingly being introduced at larger gym chains.

2. Hourly Pay or Commission

Many Personal Trainers are paid per training session or client, meaning their income depends on the number of clients and booked hours.

  • Hourly rates typically range between 300–700 SEK per hour, depending on experience and employer.

3. Self-Employment

As a freelance PT, you set your own rates and invoice clients directly or through the gym.

  • Freelance trainers generally charge between 500–1200 SEK per hour, depending on their client base and the scope of their services.

4. Hybrid Model

Many gyms offer a combination of fixed salary and commission, where you receive a base income plus additional pay based on booked hours.

Other Factors Affecting Income

  • Experience: Newly certified trainers typically earn less than experienced ones who have established a steady client base.

  • Location: Trainers in larger cities often have the opportunity to earn higher salaries compared to those in smaller towns.

  • Specialization: Trainers with advanced qualifications, such as Medical Trainer or Nutritionist certifications, can often charge higher hourly rates.

Estimated Monthly Salary

  • Newly Certified PTs: Can expect to earn between 20,000–30,000 SEK per month (full-time work with 120 training hours per month).

  • Experienced PTs: With a stable client base or their own business, earnings can reach 50,000 SEK or more per month.

Tips for Maximizing Your Salary

To increase your income as a PT:

  • Build strong relationships with your clients.

  • Continuously develop your skills and knowledge.

  • Consider adding specializations to expand your services.
