To give you the opportunity to work with real clients while having the support of a mentor, we’ve included a practical internship in the PT Online program. However, unlike traditional internships, this is a limited and flexible type of practical experience.
Purpose of the Internship
The internship is designed to allow you to practice your new skills at a time that suits you, after completing the other course chapters. During the internship, you are required to complete 15 training sessions with clients. We recommend a mix of initial sessions (first-time clients) and follow-up sessions (returning clients), which typically means working with 5–10 different clients.
Internship Location Options
I have my own contacts at a gym for the internship.
This is a great option if, for example, you already have a job offer at a specific gym, allowing you to start building a client base during your internship. In this case, you simply need approval from the gym manager and must submit their contact details.
I need help finding an internship location.
Thanks to our partnerships with Sweden’s largest gym chains many of our students complete their internship at our partner gyms like Nordic Wellness (available across Sweden). You can find contact details to all the major gym chains on our partner page.
Internship Guidelines for PT Online
You decide whether to complete your internship over a short, intensive period (with many clients daily) or spread it out over a longer period (e.g., one client per week).
During the internship, you’ll have a mentor from our instructor team. Communication occurs via email, where you’ll send your training plans (including session details and comments/explanations) to your mentor after each session. Feedback will be provided within 72 hours.
Through our collaboration with KRY, you’ll receive free student insurance (upon completing the application in the welcome chapter). This insurance covers you and any potential injuries sustained by clients during the internship.
Internship hours are unpaid and offered to clients free of charge. Clients are fully aware that you are practicing.
The internship is also an opportunity to practice marketing your PT services by approaching gym members. While this might feel intimidating, you’ll already have extensive training in this area by the time you start, and many members are eager to work with a PT for free.
We recommend limiting the number of friends or family members you train during the internship. While it’s fine for some clients to fall into this category, they must be members of the gym where you’re conducting the internship (you cannot bring non-members into the gym for free).
Alternatives to Gym-Based Internships
If completing all sessions at a gym is not possible, you may conduct up to 7 of the 15 sessions at home or outdoors.
By combining flexibility and mentorship, the PT Online internship is an excellent way to gain hands-on experience and prepare for your career as a Personal Trainer!
