Internship during PT Online

Information about the internship part of the PT Online course

Updated over a week ago

⚠️ PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU CONTINUE:

IF YOU ARE ENROLLED IN PT PRO:

Your internship begins the day after the lesson called “LÄRARLEDD PRAKTIK” (“Teacher-led Internship”) – check the exact date in your calendar on the student portal). Your internship must be completed and approved no later than five days before your practical exam.

👉 See specific instructions for PT PRO students [here].

IF YOU ARE NOT ENROLLED IN PT PRO:

You complete your internship at the end of PT Online.

Please make sure to inform us of which gym you will be doing your internship at no later than two weeks before your planned start date. This allows us time to assign you a mentor from our instructor team.

1. Your internship – A great start!

At the end of your studies it's time for your internship. This gives you a chance to coach real clients – with a mentor at the school who gives you feedback after each session.

Before you can begin your internship, the following assignments must be completed and approved:

  • PROGRAM DESIGN: PLAN A WORKOUT

  • COMMUNICATION: COACHING CONVERSATION

  • TESTING METHODOLOGY: TEST DAY

  • INTERNSHIP PREP: MICKE

  • INTERNSHIP PREP: MARIANNE

You must also apply for student membership in the Kroppsterapeuternas Riksförbund (KRY) to be insured during your internship.

2. Fifteen sessions

The internship is in total 15 training hours with clients (who you find at the internship gym), remember that:

  • You must work with at least five different clients (each person can be trained up to three times).

  • The internship must be completed no later than five days before your practical exam.

  • You schedule your sessions in agreement with the gym.

What’s the purpose of the internship?

This is your chance to practice the entire PT process – finding clients, consultations, program design, and training.

To get the full benefit, avoid training only friends and family.

📌 Please note: All clients must be members of the gym where you do your internship.

3. Choosing internship-gym

Here are four common scenarios. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to us!

🟢 I already have a job as a PT

Great! Talk to your future manager and ask if you can complete the internship at your new workplace. Then submit the details via “Dina val” (“Your Choices”) on the student web.

🟡 I know where I want to work, but haven’t applied yet

Perfect! Apply now – the internship is a great opportunity to show your skills. Contact details for our partner gyms are available under “Partners” (you must be logged in to access them).

🔵 I have found an internship gym but don’t have a job yet

Well done! Submit your gym details via “Dina val” so we can assign you a mentor.

🔴 I need help finding an internship location

No problem! Many of our partner gyms enjoy hosting interns. Start by checking which gyms are near you, then reach out to the manager directly – or contact the responsible person listed on the “Partners” page.

4. Informing us

Once you know where you’ll be doing your internship, submit the following information via Dina val on the student portal:

  • Name of the gym

  • Name and contact information for a responsible person at the gym (e.g., site manager)

  • The time period of your internship (discuss the period with your gym before submitting the info to us)

After submitting this information, you will be assigned a mentor – and you’re ready to begin!

5. Internship - step by step

Before or after each training session:

  • Plan your session using the same template you’ve used throughout the course.

  • After each session, upload the completed form via INLÄMNINGAR on the student portal under the assignments titled: "PRAKTIK: TRÄNINGSPASS 1-15"

  • Your mentor will give you feedback within 72 hours.

  • Submit one assignment per session (total of 15).

📌 Inform your clients that their training session is part of your internship and that you will share your notes with your mentor.

Your training plans must include:

  • Client background and goals

  • 6-month overview

  • Macrocycle, mesocycle, and microcycle

  • Planned vs. actual session (left side = planned, right side = what you did)

  • Comments/reflections on the session

📌 If you train a client more than once, use the same document and simply add the new session at the end.

Video Assignments

There are three video-based tasks:

These must be completed and approved no later than 5 days before your practical exam.

You may complete them using your internship clients – or with friends/family outside of your internship.

6. What do I say to the gym?

It’s a good idea to explain your internship clearly. You can say something like:

“The internship is the final part of The Academy’s PT Education. It’s an opportunity to practice all parts of the training process.

The internship includes 15 free PT sessions with members at the gym. After each session, I receive feedback from a mentor at the school.”

7. Frequently asked questions - for the gym

What does the gym need to do?

After the internship is approved, we need contact details for a responsible person at the gym.

Someone at the gym should then go over practical routines with the intern, such as:

  • When the sessions can be scheduled

  • If a keycard or access code is needed

  • If food storage or eating areas are available

  • If the intern should wear gym-branded clothing or their Academy t-shirt

⚠️ The gym is not expected to find clients for the intern or assist with training.

The intern and their clients are fully insured through Kroppsterapeuternas Riksförbund.

How does the intern find clients?

We provide training in sales and communication so that students are well-prepared to approach gym members.

And since the training sessions are free, it’s usually easy to find clients.

Is the intern competing with the gym’s existing PTs?

No – the 15 free sessions often increase interest in personal training at the gym.

If the gym doesn’t hire the intern afterward, the clients are already engaged and may continue training with a PT from your existing team.
